Obituary for Cindy Buckner

Cindy Buckner, 58 of Pinch, passed away on September 17, 2018 at the Hubbard Hospice House.

Cindy was born on July 21, 1960, in Charleston, WV. After graduating from Herbert Hoover High School in 1978, she went to work for the State of West Virginia at the Division of Human Services. She later transferred to the West Virginia Insurance Commissioner’s Office where she worked as a complaints examiner for over thirty years. Her illness forced her to retire this past January with thirty-nine years of service with the State of West Virginia.

Cindy loved her family and enjoyed the years her children were involved in athletics and other activities. Along the way she made many special friends and the memories of those days were of much comfort in her final days. Cindy also adored her two grandsons and enjoyed them very much even through her illness.

Cindy’s battle with oral cancer caused unimaginable pain and suffering, but she handled it with great courage and dignity. Along her journey, she encountered many wonderful, caring physicians and nurses who did their best to provide as much comfort and care as possible. In her final days, the nurses at the Hubbard House provided her with great care, comfort and compassion. The family appreciates all of them greatly.

Cindy was preceded in death by her mother, Imogene Shamblin; maternal grandparents, Cossie and Stella Summers; paternal grandparents, Jessie and Dessie Shamblin; and father and mother-in-law Franklin (Buck) and Barbara (Babs) Buckner.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Kevin; daughter, Ashley (Matt) Wehrle of Pinch; son, Grant Buckner of Morgantown; father, Dana Shamblin of Sissonville; grandsons, Dillon and Blake Wehrle; brothers, Greg (Sandy) Shamblin of Beckley and Gary (Annette) Shamblin of Sissonville; sisters-in-law, Lisa Hamilton of Pinch and Traci Nelson of Mink Shoals; brother-in-law, Travis Buckner of Pinch; nephews, Josh Hamilton of Mill Creek, Dirk Shamblin of Beckley, Wyatt Buckner of Crede, Shane Nelson of Mink Shoals and Jake Shamblin of Beckley; nieces, Heather Watson and Megan Shamblin of Sissonville and Taylor Shamblin of Beckley; great nieces, Chloe and Brea Caruthers of Sissonville. Cindy also was survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins, including 34 first cousins, with whom she was very close.

Cindy was a Christian and attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview where services will be held. Visitation will be Thursday, September 20th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 21st. Pastors Reggan Jett and Rick Perrine will be officiating. Entombment will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum, Big Chimney.
