Obituary for Janet "Jan" Genevieve Hughes Trigaux

Janet "Jan" Genevieve Hughes Trigaux
Janet "Jan" Genevieve Hughes Trigaux of Pinch, age 84 completed her journey in this life to be reunited with her husband, Kenny after a courageous battle with cancer on January 18, 2017 in the comfort of her home. She was preceded on this journey by her mother, Virgie Whited, and father, Charles Hughes, and husband, Kenneth Trigaux.

Jan is survived by daughter, Judith Trigaux; granddaughters, Whitney Sublette of Morgantown, Kendra and Joe Levliette; and great granddaughter, Genevieve Levliette of Bridgeport.

Jan spent her adolescent years until graduation from Walton High School, in Roane Co. She was raised by her grandparents on a rural farm during the depression years with many cousins of whom she came to regard as brothers and sisters. Up until the last year of her illness, she continued to can and preserve vegetables, jams, and jellies. She always said, "It just tastes better". Jan knew the "old ways" and was delighted to pass these skills to anyone wanting to learn. Jan always had the recipes that everyone wanted and loved sharing these with others.

Jan left Roane county to continue her education in Martinsburg at the beauty academy. After completion of her degree, she moved to Kanawha City to work for Libby Owens as a receptionist, where she met Kenneth Trigaux .

Jan married Kenneth Allen Trigaux in May of 1953. They had their daughter, Judith in 1955. In 1957, Ken and Jan decided to purchase Indian Fishing Lake and preceded to forge a lifetime partnership in a business that sometime was unforgiving, but, very rewarding. During the course of time, Indian Lake became the hub for all the neighborhood kids, and Jan fed and nurtured all of them. Most of the kids have remained in close contact throughout adulthood. She and Ken formed lifelong friendships with many who came to the lake to fish. During the Autumn months, Jan with friends and children would hike the hills gathering treasures for Christmas decorations.

One of the things that many remember about Jan is that not only did she take in the neighborhood stray children, she also took in all the stray animals. She had dogs, cats, birds, and a raccoon. Jan has also left behind her dog, Winston and cat, Doolittle.

One of the annual traditions at Indian Lake was the Christmas Eve party for family, friends and patrons. There was always good food and reminiscing. Thirty six years later on July 13, 1989, Ken was killed in a tragic accident while on his way for a load of fish. Jan ran the lake for four years after the accident. She sold the lake in 1994 and concentrated on her ceramics business. Jan continued to teach ceramics until a year after being diagnosed with cancer.

Jan was very active in the Salina Chapter of the Eastern Star. She love to be involved in projects in the community. She treated her granddaughters as though they were princess's. Her life touched so many others in wonderful ways. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to her until another day. We love you and will miss you so much.

In lieu of flowers, please make donation to Hubbard Hospice House. The individuals are true angels, special thanks and blessings to our Hospice Nurses, Janet and Ginny, CNA, Cheryl and social worker, Amber. You provide more comfort and support than you can imagine. And to Eloise, Kathy, Pat, Larry, Kyle, Fred, Joanne, Charles, Gary, Marna and Bill, you were always there when we needed you and even when we thought we didn't need you, but we did.

Service will be at Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview on Saturday, January 21, at 2:00 PM. Visitation and an Eastern Star ceremony will be held two hours prior at 12:00 PM. Graveside service will be held at Elk Hills Memorial Park.
