Obituary for Jerry Wayne Chandler

Jerry Wayne Chandler
Jerry Wayne Chandler, 74, of Elkview, WV, left his earthly home for his heavenly mansion on Oct. 15, 2017.

He was born Nov. 17, 1942 in Clendenin, WV, the son of Lula Belle and Lewis Chandler. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Arbutus Chandler-Westfall; and infant sister, Anna Faye Chandler.

Survivors include wife of 52 years, Loretta Deel Chandler; a son, Jerry W. Chandler II, “Jay” and wife, Terri Chandler; four grandchildren, Barry Rooks, Rachael Rooks, Jayson Chandler, and Sarahann Chandler.

He gave many years of service to his community through a pastoral and musical career that spanned his lifetime. At the age of four he sang his first solo, and from that solo on he would sing hundreds more. Jerry spread his wings singing with the Emeralds Quartet out of Parkersburg, WV. Early in his music career, he was the music director at Clendenin Church of the Nazarene. Following his marriage to Loretta, they moved to Ravenswood where he directed music at Ravenswood Church of the Nazarene. Later in his career he also directed music at Roswell Community Church and Mount Tabor UMC. In addition to a rewarding music career, he had a calling to spread God’s word. Jerry was an ordained elder in the Nazarene and the Wesley Churches. Over many years he also pastored several churches: Warrenton Church of the Nazarene, Parsons Church of the Nazarene, Colorado Springs Church of the Bluffs, and Burke UMC. He loved his congregations and the warming fellowship they never seized to offer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but he is singing with Jesus!

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hafer Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Friday, October 20, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Mount Tabor UMC with entombment at Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum, Big Chimney.
