Frank William Mitchell
Frank William Mitchell, 87, of Elkview, died Friday, September 15, 2017, at home. Frank was born in Acup, in Kanawha County, WV, on April 21, 1930 to Denny Dean Mitchell and Maggie May (Bowe) Mitchell. He served in the United States Naval Reserve for over eight years and traveled to Cuba and Jamaica. He retired from Smith’s Transfer Trucking Company and was a proud member of Teamsters Local #175.
Frank enjoyed farming, raising livestock, and riding horses. Often friends relied on him and his Dodge truck to haul hay or transport animals. In previous years Frank was a member of Elk River Boots and Saddle Club and volunteered there often. He also volunteered at Amber View Stables. Frank loved Old Time and Bluegrass music, especially Bill Monroe. He also loved trains. Many neighbors and friends knew him as “Daddy Frank”.
Frank married Mary Magdalene Anderson on October 17, 1950. They had three children, Karen Ann, Denny Dean (II) and Kathy Jo. Mary died May 31, 1984 and Denny died March 2, 1997.
Frank was also predeceased by his parents; his sister, Mary Frances Mitchell; and his brother, Marvin T. “Buck” Mitchell.
Frank is survived by his daughters; Karen Ann Mitchell Jones, of Elkview, WV, Kathy Jo Mitchell and her husband, Andrew Morrison, of Walterboro, SC; grandson, J. Cody Robertson and wife, Ashley, of Bella Vista, AR; great grandson, Carter William Robertson; brothers, Clifford D. Mitchell and his wife Kay of Charleston, WV, Bobby Joe Mitchell of Walton, WV and Murl Mitchell and his wife Sherry of Sarasota FL; several nieces, nephews, other extended family, beloved neighbors and close friends.
The Mitchell family appreciates all of those who visited Frank and cared for him during his 2 year decline. We thank Nurse Crystal of Amedisys, and we especially thank Nurse Janet, Nurse Brittany, CNA Amanda and CNA Cheryl, along with the entire HOSPICE CARE Staff.
Visitation with the family will occur on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hafer Funeral Home, 50 North Pinch Road, Elkview, WV.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 20, at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Moales and the Rev. J. Cody Robertson officiating.
Burial will be in the Mitchell Family Section of Quick Community Cemetery in Quick, WV immediately following the funeral.
