Hans Allen Raines
Hans Allen Raines, 35, of Elkview, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017 after a long battle with muscular dystrophy.
He was born on August 6, 1981 and is survived by his loving parents, Paul and Emma Raines, of Elkview, two aunts, an uncle, cousins, and many friends. Hans will be especially missed by his longtime best friend, Jamie Cooper Boyd. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Clyde and Bonnie Welch, and Dotson and Lucille Raines, and aunt Betty Kaziah.
Hans was an advocate for muscular dystrophy awareness and research and despite his disease, accomplished much, including being a state recipient of the Robert Ross Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Personal Achievement Award in 2008, and the WV Insider Editor in Chief in 2012.
Hans attended Herbert Hoover High School, but graduated from Roane County High School in 2000. He was a Christian and never met a stranger, quickly making friends with everyone for whom he came into contact. He was always the first person to wish his family members and friends a happy birthday and provide well wishes at every holiday.
He was an avid West Virginia Mountaineer and NASCAR fan. Hans was a friend to many, his smile, warm heart, and love for all will surely be missed. The world is a little less bright without him in it.
The visitation will be held from 6-8 pm at Hafer Funeral Home in Elkview on Tuesday, June 13. A graveside service will be held at Elk Hills Memorial Park, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 14, with Rev. Rick Sams officiating.
