June Kramer Metcalf
On January 16, 2017, Catherine June Kramer Metcalf, 94, of Metter, GA and formerly of Charleston, WV, went to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her husband, Alan, after a long and fulfilling life of service to her family, friends, and community.
June, the daughter of Howard and Verda St. Coeur Kramer, was born Aug. 26, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio. She spent part of her childhood in Florida and later attended Moody Bible Institute, where she met her husband, Alan Clare Metcalf, and they were married in 1948. She joined Alan in his Christian ministry and later with the Moody Bible Institute. One of her proudest accomplishments was when she earned her LPN license at the age of 46. After retirement, she volunteered for CAMC and Kanawha Hospice and in 2005 she was named the CAMC/ West Virginia Volunteer of the Year. She also enjoyed making her family and friends beautiful quilts.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband in 2005 and her sisters, Rose Marie Jones and Dorothy Nicholson.
June is survived by her son Paul (Marilyn) Metcalf; daughters JoAnne (Peter) Wallis and Miriam (Bill) Higginbotham; grandchildren Patty Metcalf Sobczak (Scott), Kosh Wallis Gentry (Darin), Adam Wallis (Aimee), Amber Higginbotham (Nathan Good) and Alex Higginbotham (Paula Johnson); great-granddaughters, Kahley and Reagan Good; and her faithful canine companion and shadow, Roxie. It is comforting to know that June’s love for and service to others lives on through her children.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In-lieu of flowers, June would like her family and friends to love each other as much as she loved them.
