Mary Lou Lucas
Mary Lou Lucas age 72, of Big Chimney passed away peacefully on August 22, 2015 at home surrounded by family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Lila Knight; her mother-in-law, Ada Lucas and sister-in-law Barbara Lucas.
She is survived by her one true love and husband of 47 years, Carmel Lucas, Jr., brother Joel Knight (Catherine); children Leslie Gallian (David), Laurie Jones (Tony), C. D. Lucas III (Lucy) and Chad Lucas; 6 precious grandchildren, Lyndsey Thompson (Ben), Madison Gallian, Hannah Gallian, Lucas Jones, Lane Jones and Trey Lucas; 4 nephews, Mike Knight (Dee Dee), Robert Knight (Norma), David Knight (Lynn) and Jay L. Knight (Neuza).
Mary was a proud member of the St. Albans High School Class of 1960, many with whom she remained lifelong friends. She was active in their class reunions preparations and shared so many good times with classmates and her beach girls. She was always involved in her children's activities as they were growing up and more recently became her grandchildren's' biggest fan. She retired as a Library Assistant from Elk Valley Library, was an avid shooter and member of The Well Armed Woman. She walked her journey of faith at Central United Methodist Church and through all these venues made many dear friends.
What her family will miss the most is her zeal for life, her energetic and enthusiastic personality, her organization and leadership of so many family activities. We could be taking orders from "the boss" and not even be aware we were. She was the organizer for family get together's, the planner for meals and the one who encouraged "retirement" for Carmel to permit time for travel. In the last few years, she and Carmel were able to see much of the country.
She wrote these words before her diagnosis with lung cancer: "I want to tell you it has been a wonderful life. I am confident in my Lord and have faith to know what lies ahead...it is well with my soul." Her family would like to thank Dr. Terrance Rhodes, the many wonderful nurses at the CAMC Cancer Center infusion services and Kanawha Hospice staff for their excellent and compassionate care during the last 5 months.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Kanawha Hospice , Valley Grove UMC or the American Lung Association.
Services will be 2:00 PM , Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leslie Gallian officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney, WV.
Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the funeral home.
