Edward Francis Merrifield, Jr. Ph.D.
Edward Francis Merrifield, Jr. Ph.D., 77 born July 25, 1945 in Charleston, WV passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, August 20, 2022.
He was the son of the late Edward Francis, Sr. and Dorcas Merrifield. In his younger years he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Mr. Merrifield attended Wheeling College receiving an undergraduate degree in History followed by a Masters and Doctoral degree in History from Case Western Reserve. Mr. Merrifield began his career working for the WV Division of Highways as a construction inspector. Then spent two plus decades working as the Director of Research, Information and Analysis at the Bureau of Employment Programs in WV. He retired in 2001 and has spent the last 21 years living in his childhood home continuing to study history. He had many other interests including woodworking, metal machining and model building. Ed loved his cats and enjoyed feeding and caring for the feral cats in his neighborhood.
A graveside service will be at 1:00pm on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston.
