Obituary for Dora Edith ""Granny"" Hammack (Chapman)

Dora Edith "Granny" (Chapman) Hammack

Dora Edith “Granny” (Chapman) Hammack, 92, from Charleston and formerly Gandeeville, passed peacefully into the Lord’s presence on January 28, 2021 after a long illness.

Granny was born on March 18, 1928 to the late David and Elsie (Wickline) Chapman. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, James “Bill” Chapman, Charles “Russell” Chapman and Preston “Shorty” Chapman.
Granny was married to William Ralph Hammack for 29 years, until his death in 1974. She is survived by her daughter Linda Fields, granddaughter Jennifer (Arthur) Weidlich and great grandson Noah Weidlich. She was considered a second mother to many of Linda’s friends and Granny to several of Jennifer’s.

Granny was a homemaker who loved to read, cook, sew, crochet, quilt, and a host of other activities. She was involved in many quilting clubs and worked for Cabin Creek Quilts for a short time. She attended Jarrett Memorial UMC where she spent much of her time volunteering for LERMA.

We are forever grateful to the staff at Glasgow Health & Rehabilitation Center for the love and care they gave her over the last five years and for treating her as if she were their mamaw.

Granny did not want to have a funeral service; however, a memorial service will be planned later date in the spring.

Online condolences may be made at www.haferfuneralhome.net.

Arrangements are in the care of Hafer Funeral Home, 50 North Pinch Road, Elkview.
