Kenneth Edward Hanson Sr.

Kenney Hanson, 71 of Elkview, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

Kenney was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He served his country as a United States Marine during Vietnam, retired from the US Postal Service after 42 years of service, and was currently working for Hafer Funeral Home. He was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, Elk Valley Christian School board member, and sound technician. He worked tirelessly on the rebuild of the church and school after the flood of June 2016. Kenney loved serving the Lord and loved his family with all his heart.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marilyn Hanson; son, Kenney (Cyndi) Hanson; daughter, Raina (Donny) Newhouse; brothers, David (Brenda) Hanson and Paul (Vickie) Hanson; sister, Sharon Clark; grandchildren, Brandon, Christian, MacKenzie, Erika, and Annelise; one expected great-grandson, and a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Kenney's request was for donations to be made Elk Valley Christian School in honor of his love for the ministry of EVCS.

Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 58 Mount Pleasant Dr, Elkview with Pastor Lee Swor and Pastor John Day officiating. A private burial will be observed at the Hanson Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6pm to 8pm Friday, December 27, 2019 and also one hour prior to service on Saturday.

Marilyn , you know that I didn’t really get to know Kenny , but I know he was a good family man to you and your children . This really blew me away this evening when I saw the text . So I texted Wanda and asked what had happened. When we know really good people like you and you family , your “hurts” hurt us also . I will be keeping you and the family in my prayers as these days go by . Love you girl . I know this is going to be rough .

my sincere sympathy to the family. Kenney and I were original hires at the Cabelas store. I enjoyed working with him because both of us being older than everyone else in the department, we were always doing our jobs not goofing off. I would get tickled at him when he would look at his watch, and say, it's 10 oclock and I haven't had a break yet. I said,, Kenney, the post office has spoiled you, this isn't a government job. I hated it when he left because as I said, he was one of my favorite people to work with. I know he will be missed by many family and friend. RIP my friend, will see you again someday.

Kenney, a true man of God, Family and country! You served your country, your family, and the Lord with passion, grace and strength beyond reproach. The world was made better by your presence and you will be missed by all those who were privileged to have the honor of meeting/knowing you! You have moved to your Heavenly home and have left your mark on this world! Until we meet again...Drew and Vickie Massey

I was shocked and devastated to hear about the unexpected departure of my beloved brother in Christ, fellow student of the word of God, and cherished friend, and yet how glorious for him to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. All the deep things of scripture we bounced off each other are no longer speculation for him. Lisa and I send our unconditional love and prayers for grace, comfort, and peace to Marilyn, Raina, Donny, Christian, Erika, Annelise, and the rest of the family. Words cannot express what Kenney meant to me. I could not be who I am today doing what I am doing for the Lord, without his direct contributions, support, and encouragement. Our last interaction was after Bible institute classes Monday night when he came up to me and gave me a customized Christmas/Thank You card on behalf of the entire class. He has done this for all 10 years. He told me he loved me and appreciated all the time and effort I put into study and teaching them the word of God. I take great comfort in knowing that my final words to him were, "I love you too my brother and appreciate all you do!" and that it will not be much longer before we are all reunited at the Lord's return. May our Lord Jesus Christ wrap his everlasting arms around the family in this time of need. Go on, we will, because it is the Lord's will and our beloved brother would not have it any other way!
