Obituary for Betty Jo Kennedy Carnes

Betty Jo Kennedy Carnes passed away April 5, 2019 with family by her side. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a faithful Christian. She worked at McCrory’s retail store and Annedie’s Beauty Supply. Betty was a beloved Sunday School teacher, play director, and youth group leader for many years at Pinch Ridge Memorial Church. Many of those children she worked with considered her like a second mother to them. She was a 1947 graduate of Elkview High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Ronald Carnes, daughter Linda Kay Carnes Smith, parents Harley Ray Kennedy, Sr. and Olive Virginia Holt Kennedy, brothers Harley Ray Kennedy, Jr. and Richard S. Kennedy, sister-in-law Elizabeth Ann Glenn Kennedy, and nephews Edward Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, Jr.

Betty is survived by her daughter Sandra Carnes Belcher and her husband Billy Belcher, son-in-law Tony Smith, grandchildren Joey Belcher and Beth Belcher, great-grandchildren William Lance Belcher and Mary Kay Belcher, brother Robert D. Kennedy, Sr., sister-in-laws Mary Kennedy and June Kennedy, niece and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Special thanks to Delores Huffman and Cheryl Webb, her close special neighbors, and the CAMC General ER staff and EMTs who were so kind in our hour of need. Flowers are welcome as are donations to the Gideons or Pinch Ridge Memorial Church.

Service will be 2:00 pm Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Hafer Funeral Home with Rev. Robert D. Kennedy, Sr. and Pastor Doug McClung officiating. Burial will be at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the funeral home.
