Obituary for Kathleen Louise Greer (Minner)

Kathleen Louise Minner Greer, 91, of Elkview, West Virginia, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at Kanawha Hospice Care after a long illness.

She was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Bomont, Clay County, the daughter of the late William Ralph and Ella Frances Caldwell Minner. On Sep. 9, 1944, she married Raymond Edwin Greer in Charleston.

Kathleen was a member of the Elmore Advent Christian Church in Charleston for most of her adult life. She was well known for her dedication to teaching Sunday School and Junior Church to the younger children. She was also a member and officer of Stonewall Jackson High School Band Boosters, was a scout leader for both girl scouts and Brownies and was a substitute teacher in the earlier years of her life. Her hobbies were centered around her home and her church.
She was a longstanding member of The Women's Home & Foreign Mission Society and would frequently host their scheduled meetings in her home. She was especially known for her kindness and generosity to all. She was so fond of tending her flower gardens and was the driving force behind so many amazing outside Christmas decorations around her home. Each year throughout the 1990's folks would drive from miles around and even exit their vehicles just to get a clear look at those wonderful displays of Christmas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and sons, Raymond Edwin "Eddie" Greer Jr. and William Sisson Greer and pet boxer/ companion, Harvy II.

Survivors include sons, Stephen Douglas Greer of Elkview, David Anthony Greer of Green Bank; daughter, Colleen Rae Greer-Church of Elkview; brothers, George William Minner of Charleston, Buddy Roger Minner of Rockport; sisters, Edith Augusta McCormick of Charleston, Betty Jean Rose of Proctorville, Ohio, Roberta Francis Ratliff of Wilmington, North Carolina; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Service will be 2:00PM, Friday, November 2 at Hafer Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the service in Elk Hills Memorial Park.
