James Daris "JD" Dodd
James Daris "JD" Dodd, 93, of Auburndale, Fl., formerly of Elkview, passed away at his home after a short illness on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. He served the Lord for 73 years and was a member of the Leatherwood Primitive Advent Christian Church, in Elkview.
He previously worked at Black Rock Paving and Union Carbide. He also worked for Bechtel Corporation in Puerto Rico and on the Alaska Pipeline. After working in the public sector, he became an entrepreneur of many things. He began buying and selling at the Auburndale International Market World in 1982. He became known there as the "JD the Tool Man" working up until a few weeks before his death.
Preceding him in death was his wife Audry; parents Delbert and Sadie Dodd; brothers, John Paul and Lowell Emerson Dodd; sister, Lois Jean; and grandson Christopher Dodd.
He is survived by his son, Tom and wife Linda Dodd of Senacaville, OH.; daughters, Kathy and husband Glenn Morrison of Ft. Pierce, FL. and Patsy and husband Jim Stafford of Elkview; son in-law, Stephen R. Moles of Auburndale, FL.; sister, Arlene Sams of Elkview; and sister in-law Betty Dodd of Nitro; grandchildren, TD and Robert Dodd, Heather Smith, Stephen Moles, Cindy Crumley, Jimmy Stafford, Maria Butterworth, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
We would like to thank all of our Florida family who has cared for Dad. Special thanks to grandson Stephen Moles for his unwavering commitment to taking care of this man he called pawpaw, friend, and business partner. Through laughter and tears he went above and beyond everything expected to see he was cared for. We are forever grateful.
A service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Leatherwood PAC Church with Preacher Leroy Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Dodd Cemetery, Elkview.
