Obituary for Samuel Mark Campbell

Samuel M. Campbell, 92, of Elkview passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He born Feb 15, 1926 in Clendenin, WV one of eleven children born to the late Irvin M. Campbell and Louvada Walker Campbell. He married Elizabeth Anne Clemmer Campbell in 1948 and they raised three daughters.

Sam was a member of Park Avenue and Elkview Church of Christ, Charleston; and retired from State Auto Mutual Insurance Company as a Senior Claims Advisor. He was a 32 degree mason and a member of the Clendenin Masonic Lodge 126 AF&AM, Scottish Rite in Valley of Charleston, Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston.

He was a World War II, Navy veteran serving aboard USS Mertz in the South Pacific for two years. The ship received ten battle stars during World War II attached to 5th and 7th fleet.
Left to cherish Sam's memory is his loving wife of 70 years Elizabeth Anne Campbell; daughters, Valerie Blackwell and husband Fred, Emily Blackwell, Beverly Wheatcraft and husband Barry; grandchildren, Amy Porter, Jay Blackwell and wife Amy, Fawn Atkins and husband Jonathan, Holli Blackwell; great grandchildren, Olivia Porter, Kathryn Porter, Luke Blackwell, Austin Blackwell, Oliver Atkins, and Crew Atkins; sister, Patsy Hess and husband Robert; sister-in-law, Eloise Campbell and a host of special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be open to the public from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, Monday, September 24th, 2018 at the Myers Chapel of Hafer Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow the visitation in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers Colbie Pitsenbarger, Dee Walker, Dawn Spears, Debbie Shamblin, and Crystal Carroll.
