Obituary for Irene Francis Cummings

Irene F. Cumming, 97, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Irene was a devout Christian, prayer warrior and member of the Clendenin Church of the Nazarene. She graduated from Elkview High School and she served her community and church for 15 years as a missionary president, and also served on the church board. She liked traveling with her Christian travel group to various places and events and always looked forward to her annual church camp getaway, in Summersville. Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and leader that loved her family with unconditional love.

She is preceded in death by her caring husband of 38 years, Howard F. Cummings; parents, Irvin and Katherine Nichols; brothers, Weldon Nichols and Leo Nichols; sisters, Ora Workman, Reda Moore, and Thelma Carte.

Irene is survived by her loving family, daughters, Bobbie Canter and Jeannie (Richard) Craig; grandchildren, Kim (Johnny) Abshire, Tommy (Melinda) Lyons, John Travis (Sarah) Lyons,Chad (Deanna) Craig, and Lesley Craig; great grandchildren, Lindsay, Jonathan, Melissa, Zachary, Nicholas, Bethanie, John Garett, Lucas, Gracie, Raegan, and Jackson; and 5 great great grandchildren.

The Cummings family would like to extend an special thank you to all the hospice workers and nurses, for their tender care and love you gave to our mother.

Service will be 2:00 pm Friday September 14, 2018 at the Myers Chapel of Hafer Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Cale officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
