James Edward Strickland, Sr. 85, of Elkview passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Eastbrook Center, Charleston.

He had been long time employee for Connor's Greenhouse, Young's Feed and Seed and Shanklin's Greenhouse. James served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was a lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Elliott Strickland and Anne Pearl Taylor Strickland; siblings, Kermit and Elliott, Jr., Freda King, Virginia Slater, Bonnie Gibson, Tressie Strickland.

He is survived by his sons, Jim Strickland of Charleston, Jerry Strickland of MI; daughter, Terry Drake Grech, Cincinnati, OH; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Service will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Hafer Funeral Home with Jack Brown officiating.

Visitation will be 5pm-7pm Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Hafer Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 10am Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
