Ruth Ernestine "Shorty" Douglas, 91, went to her heavenly home on Monday, April 3, 2017. Ruth was born on July 17, 1925 to the late Bill and Westie Campbell of Clendenin.
She married the love of her life, James Elbert "Doug" Douglas on December 6, 1942 at the age of 17. They were married for 66 years. Ruth continued to celebrate their anniversary even after Doug's death May 16, 2008.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, "Doug", her daughter, Carol Sue Holcomb, sons, Billie Joe Douglas and James Stuart Douglas. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Ann Douglas of Elkview and sister, Elouise Chandler Peters, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and many adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren and other family members and friends.
All who knew Ruth, loved her. She touched many lives in her 91 years. She was a Christian, a Baptist and a Republican and she was more than happy to tell people about all of them. Ruth loved the Lord above everything else. There will never be another like her. She was as tough as nails, yet as gentle as a child. Ruth will be sadly missed by her loving family and many friends.
Service will be 1:00pm Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Hafer Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Estep officiating. Burial will be at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the funeral home.
