Obituary for Lucas Drake Lyons

Lucas Drake Lyons
Luke, 5, gained his angel wings on February 20, 2017 at 12:59 p.m. in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where he fought a short but courageous battle against cancer.

Born August 24, 2011, in Charleston, he was the son of Robert “Rabbit” Withrow II and Elizabeth Carson of Tyler Mountain.

Luke is survived by his parents; brother, Robbie Withrow III; great grandmother, Ann Vickers of Logan; grandmother, Debra “Glammy” Marsh of Charleston; grandfather, Harry “Poppa” Carpenter of Charleston; grandparents, Robert “Papaw” and Marie “Mamaw” Withrow of Ripley; God parents, Jenna Miller of Logan, Mark and Nikki Hayes of Ohio, Rich and Kathie Cope of Indiana; uncle Michael Vickers of Logan; uncle Ed and Aunt Pam Carson of Campbell’s Creek; uncle Donnie and aunt Jessica Withrow of Mink Shoals; uncle Richard and aunt Gina Thomas of Saint Albans; uncle Doug and aunt Becky Bailey of Dunbar; uncle Richard Leach of Charleston; uncle Eddie “Joker” Foster of Tyler Mountain; aunt Justa Bradshaw of Nitro and countless friends and extended family that loved him very much.

Luke was preceded in death by his great grandfather Edgie Vickers of Logan, WV.

Luke attended Light House Daycare in Kanawha City where he made many wonderful friends. His teachers helped to lay the cornerstones that shaped him into the wonderful young boy he became. He then began pre-K this year at Sacred Heart in Charleston where he attended until his diagnosis in December.

Luke looked for reasons to head outdoors. You could find him any weekend running on his Papaw Withrow’s farm in Evans with his brother and partner in crime, Robbie or splashing in one of the many pools his Glammy put up out back when the weather was warm. He was his Glammy’s little sidekick and she was his very best friend in this life. His Daddy will brag that he was an amazing helper when it came to working on cars and motorcycles. He always had questions. Luke wanted to know the what, when, where and how’s of EVERYTHING. He was wise beyond his years. Luke loved super heroes, dinosaurs, elephants and poke’mon. At only 5 years old, Luke was one of the kindest souls to ever grace this earth. He would share his favorite toys and never left without giving everyone in the room a hug and a kiss. He had a beautiful smile and a laugh that was contagious. He will be sadly missed by everyone that loved him.

Visitation will be held at Morris Memorial Methodist Church in Kanawha City on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. Bruce Reed will be officiating. A celebration of his life will be held immediately after the service at the Charleston Moose Club. Everyone is welcome. The family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming show of prayers, love and support we have received in our greatest time of need. A special heart felt thank you to everyone on Luke’s team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital who worked tirelessly to provide the best care possible for Luke.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Luke’s name to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Cancer and Blood Disease Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio.
