Obituary for Jennie Fay Coutz (Ohlinger)

“Mommy,” “Grandma Jennie,” or “GiGi” received her Heavenly reward on Friday, December 22, 2017, as she fell into the loving arms of her Savior. Born on Saturday, November 19, 1932, as an angel placed on earth, she has officially been called for Heaven’s duty. She leaves behind so much more than just the people who loved her. Her faith in Jesus rested her heart well in these years, but her strength and courage was unwavering through her life.

She was Mommy first, then Grandma Jennie, most recently GiGi, and to so many others she was just Jennie or Mrs. Coutz. She was a true matriarch of her family and to her they were the world. Her life was spent on earth loving people - her family, friends, and strangers, who were never strangers for long were all touched by her soul. Her voice echoed with love and friendliness and was etched into so many hearts over the years. Even with the sweetest smile on earth, her personality shined brightest with her wittiness, her Jennieisms, and her ability to make others smile as well.

She was recognized by so many as the friendly school lunch lady, serving the Kanawha County School Board for over 30 years, and as a beloved member of Heritage Baptist Church, where she continued her gift of making loving, lasting friendships.

Jennie is survived and will be missed the most by her loving children: Elizabeth Ann and Shirley Furby, Harriet Fay and Butch Angle, and Tammie Jane and Tim Adkins; her sweet daughters-in-law -- Teresa Coutz, Tammy Coutz and Wendy Anderson-Coutz; her adoring grandchildren -Autumn Dawn Furby and Fred Hopkins, Christopher Neil and Melissa Furby, Timothy “Luke” and Alison Adkins, Jennie Faye Adkins, Alex Franklin Coutz, Johnna Kay Coutz and Harley Steven Coutz; her beloved great grandbabies - Sarah Hopkins, Riley Furby, Levi Adkins, Bella Pauley, Layla Adkins, Liza Adkins, Max Furby, Liam Adkins and Aubrey Rader; as well as many, many people from the Elk River Community to corners near and far!

Jennie was preceded in death by her Mommy and Daddy, Norman W. “Tip” and Julia Ann Ohlinger; her sister Norma Barker; her late husband Harry M. Coutz; and by her four beautiful children- John Cameron Coutz, Steve Lawrence Coutz, Joel Andrew “Andy” Coutz and Julia Claire “Julie” Coutz.

And as Grandma would say, “Our hearts are broken and our hands are tied.” God has you now sweet lady and we know you would not want to come back.

Service will be 1:00pm Friday, December 29th at Heritage Baptist Church with Pastor Luke Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Woody Cemetery, Pinch.
