Obituary for James Leo Pack

James Leo Pack, 89, of Elkview passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at his residence with his loving wife by his side.

He spent his earlier career years as a pipeliner, worked 16 years at Pennzoil Company, and retired from Local 669 Sprinkler Fitters and Pass Fire Protection. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and was a member of Clendenin Masonic Lodge 126 AF&AM, 33rd degree Scottish Rite in Valley of Charleston, Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston. Jim was a member of Jarrett Memorial United Methodist Church and served as a trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Choir, and an integral part of the construction of the new sanctuary. Also, he served as chairman of the nominating committee and chairman of the elevator committee at the Elk River Community Center.

He loved spending time in Tucson, Arizona, going dancing, camping, fishing and wood working. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Basil Pack and Grace Nelson Pack; brothers, Donald, Bob, and Greg Pack; sister, Barbara Pack Tygart, and daughter-in-law, Karen Pack.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty Bays Pack; sons, Mike (Karen) Pack of Clendenin, Philip Pack of Elkview, John (Barb) Pack of Elkview; brothers, Ronald Pack, Joe Pack and Bill Pack; sister, Peggy Miller; grandchildren, Jeff, Katie, April, Ryan, Karlea, Erika, Cole, and Josh; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nathan, Jayma, Karsen, and Evan. Two step-grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

Service will be 2:00 pm Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 at Jarrett United Methodist Church, in Elkview with Pastor Charles Bias officiating. Entombment will be at Elk Hills Memorial Mausoleum, Big Chimney.

Visitation will be 5-7pm Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 at Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview.

The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregivers, all family members who participated in his care, also Dr. Deem and his staff, Sonny and E.J., Eric and Erica, Tiffany, Duffy from Amedisys Home Health; Hali and Sherry from Right at Home; Brittany from Hospice; Jarrod from the Veterans Administration Special friend Buffy and caregiver Terry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice, Shriners Children’s Hospital, Salvation Army and Jarrett United Methodist Church.
