Condolences

Condolence From: Sondra Stamper
Condolence: I had the pleasure of working with Pete for many years when I was a secretary for the Department of Natural Resources in Welch, WV before moving to Roanoke, VA. He was a fine man and the DNR could not have chosen a better human being to head our state offices. He will brighten the streets of heaven with his winning smile.

Condolence From: Emery Cantrell
Condolence: My father, Emery Cantrell, was saddened to learn last night of Pete's passing. He tried to make a call, found the number had been disconnected, and ask me to do a search on the internet. Dad worked with Pete in Reclamation, and later became the supervisor over 4 of the 6 state offices, if memory serves me. Dad stayed in touch with Pete several times each year by phone, and will always remember him as one of his dearest friends. Our condolences to his family and friends on the loss of a fine man.

Condolence From: Claude Straight
Condolence: Very saddened to hear of Pete's passing. My memories of him go to early 1979 when he, as Chief of WVDNR Reclamation Division, accepted me on a transfer from another division. Pete was the kind of person who could make anyone feel welcome and comfortable and was always approachable. He led the new division to become an efficient and professional organization and was respected by his peers and others in the industry. He, and others of his staff, helped me unselfishly when things became difficult. It was Pete who authorized having me flown to Wheeling when my father was hospitalized. I would not have gotten to the hospital in time to see Dad before emergency surgery otherwise. He died that day. I'm forever grateful to Pete. It is with heartfelt sympathy that I offer condolences to Pete's family and friends. May God bless all. Sincerely, Claude
