Carlton Meigs Matheny, 92, of Pinch, WV passed away November 21, 2016 at Charleston Memorial Hospital. He was born August 29, 1924 in Troy, WV, the son of Meigs and Opal Means Matheny.
He retired from Columbia Gas Company, in 1985 after working 34 years as a mechanical engineer. During WWII he served as a Navy Seabee in Hawaii and Midway. He graduated from Troy High School in 1942 and after his service in the Navy, attended West Virginia University earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He married Patricia "Pat" Smith in December 1949, who survives. They are the parents of four children. He is survived by son, Lynn; daughters Linda Payne, Sandra "Sandy" (Bill) Armentrout; and granddaughter Jamie Payne and great-granddaughter Emma Leigh Payne. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Barry.
Carlton was a former member of I00F and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was also a Boy Scout Master in Pinch for several years and was an active member of Mt. Tabor Methodist Church for more than fifty years.
For many years he raised large gardens to support his family. The family moved to Pinch 63 years ago to a house on which he did much of the construction,
His hobbies were hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
Service will be 11:00AM Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Hafer Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Kinder officiating. Burial will be in South Fork Baptist Cemetery, Summers, WV.
Visitation will be 6-8pm Friday, November 25 at Hafer Funeral Home.
