Obituary for Evelyn "Elgy" Francis Norman

Evelyn Francis (Elgy) Norman, 78, of Frame went home to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2015. She died a peaceful death after suffering a stroke two weeks ago at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center, where she had been a resident since March. She had the comfort of knowing she was visited by many loving family members in the final days of her life.

Elgy was born March 9, 1937, a daughter of the late Arthur T. and Josephine F. Koontz. She was a 1955 graduate of Elkview High School , where she excelled in academics and graduated with honors. After graduation, she went to work for the Capitol Soil Conservation District as a secretary, where she enjoyed a long career before retiring.

Elgy enjoyed going to "Friday Night Jam" at the Elkview Community Center and "West Side Jamboree" in Charleston to associate with friends and enjoy country music. She was a member of the fan clubs of George Jones and Alan Jackson, who were her favorite country artists.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R "Chick" Norman, whom she loved very much. They enjoyed camping together and taking anyone along who wanted to come. They loved going to their "home" at Smith Mountain Lake and spending time on the lake fishing together. They were both pet lovers and raised and cared for several throughout their life.

She was also preceded in death by brother-Frank Koontz, sister-Ruth Carnefix, sister Nancy Carnefix, and brother- Arthur T. Koontz Jr.

She is survived by her brother- James C. Koontz of Nitro, several brother and sister in laws, and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give thanks to all of her caregivers at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center and the Hospice Care nurses who cared for her in her final days.

Service will be 3:00PM Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Hafer Funeral Home-Myers Chapel, with Pastor Tim Harper and Pastor Kevin Norvell officiating. Burial will be in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be sent to Hospice Care or Kanawha-
Charleston Animal Shelter
