Leon G. Evans, Sr.
Leon G. Evans, Sr., 71, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC after a long illness. He retired as Post Master in Elkview after 38 years of service for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Evans was a liver transplant recipient two times, in 2000 and in 2011.
Leon is preceded in death by his mother Reba Myers Evans and father, Wronsford Evans, and four brothers: Melvin, Michael, Basil and Joel.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Means Evans, a son, Leon (Cyndy) G. Evans, Jr., of Horseshoe, NC., two daughters: Lisa (Kevin) Teel, of Elkview, WV and Betty (Paul Pagur) Hoover of Hurricane, WV. Three grandchildren: Luke Teel, Sam Teel and Leah Hoover. Three brothers: Uel Evans of Hendersonville, NC, David Evans of Horseshoe, NC and Willie Evans of Crestwood, KY. One sister, Ruth Ann McBride of Parkersburg, WV. And a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Leon was a graduate of Charleston High School (class of 1959) and was in the United States Air Force before working at the post office.
He was a Christian and a member of Hanson Chapel Church in Charleston, WV, where he served as a trustee, and the church class leader as well as numerous other offices within the church. Leon touched many lives throughout his lifetime and will be remembered fondly by many people.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Jaycee Burn Center, UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC for their loving care of Leon.
Service will be 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Nida and Pastor Kenny Beasley officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens, Cross Lanes, WV.
Visitation will be 5-8 Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the funeral home.
